Last night we attended the 2020 Great British Care Awards - which was much delayed due to Covid-19. The ceremony was filled with joy and laughter as all the South West Care Homes came together to celebrate each other's success. There were drinks, games, dancing and lots of laughter, it was such a fun night. Finally, a night to be out enjoying the world again! Our amazing Ruth was nominated for the 'Care Home Worker' award for her multi-tasking excellence in our home, along with being Senior Carer, Ruth also maintains our garden, keeping it bright and colourful. She places pots outside each of the resident's doors with their favourite flowers or plants. Ruth does the cooking and is also there as a handyman to fix anything that breaks or decorate anything that needs refreshing! She's a friend to all and she's a fantastic care home worker. Unfortunately, we didn't win the 'Care Home Worker' award, but just to be nominated is an achievement in itself and we're so proud of Ruth. On to the next award ceremony...!

They were softer than you can imagine, they are taller than you think and they were so impecably behaved. After about 10 minutes they began to hum to themselves, a noise which apparently means they are content in their surroundings, which we all took to be the greatest compliment. All the residents were incredibly impressed and asked loads of questions and we all learned much about these wonderful animals. We would happily welcome them back anythime. Alpacas.... The theme was old meets new, with old fashioned sports days games like the Egg and Spoon Race and a seated Obstacle Race met their modern counterparts in Hook a Duck. We also held a dog show, a cake sale and a raffle where we raised over £100 for The British Red Cross. Then we relaxed with a lovely barbecue and enjoyed cold jugs of Pimms, fresh lemonade and a barbecue in the brilliant sunshine.
