Fortnightly formal seated exercise classes are very popular at Compton View. We put everyone through their paces with an individually tailored exercise programme to keep them physically active and their minds stimulated.
Runs every Sunday with prizes. A weekly opportunity for all our residents to gather together in this fun game of chance before enjoying a buffet tea together in the main lounge.
Daily activities include a vibrant arts and crafts programme. Our flexible programme has recently included making door decorations, seasonal cards and décor, and floral table centrepieces. Staff and residents get together and enjoy a morning of fun and laughter.
Interspersed with our Arts and Crafts programme there are fun games and quizzes to be had. Quieter activities include quizzes, board games, connect 4, colouring and more!
Bigger games to include more physical activities include use of bean bags and beach balls, skittles, parachute and ball fun; the games are always energetic and fun. Gets the residents' moving without them knowing it!
Run during the warmer months, green fingered residents’ gather together to grow their own pot plants, window boxes and lovely floral arrangements for their rooms and patios.
During the warmer weather we organise daily walks and strolls around the local area, as well as more formal trips out for cream teas, fish and chips at the beach plus, for example, informative trips to the Haynes Motor Museum, theatre and local events. Trips are voted for at the weekly Resident’s Forum.
Formal music therapist Becky appears fortnightly to lead the residents in a reminiscent and interactive music session. More informal music therapy occurs when we get the karaoke machine out and enjoy a good sing-a-long together.
Residents gather together to make and decorate cakes, buns and biscuits. Also a lovely chance to spend the afternoon together nattering over a lovely pot of tea.
We often get entertainers in to provide a lively sing song once a month. We get visits from Yannis the Greek dancer (pictured above) and KiddleyDivey, another singing and dancing entertainment company, the residents are encouraged to join in and request their favourite songs. The local ukulele club are also a very popular addition to the Compton View musical team and they always stay for tea and biscuits and a natter with our residents afterwards.
Every couple of weeks we treat the residents to a manicure with their favourite nail polish, plus a foot spa too, if they wish. Our team are very good at painting nails and even match the time of year, Christmas/Easter themed nails are always popular!
We fund raise for local causes and stay involved in current affairs. Often we take the opportunity to use our social events to raise money for our local charities, which are voted for by our residents at the weekly Resident’s Forum. The residents love to feel useful and it brings the message to our local community that here are a group of elderly people who are still very much useful and relevant and capable of making a difference.
Our seasonal parties to celebrate National Events. We have regular parties to celebrate current events such as the Royal Wedding and Burns Night and we have a Christmas Fayre and a summer sports day also. Barbecues in the summer are an excellent opportunity for residents, staff as well as families and friends to get together for a sing song and to play old fashioned party games.
We like to create photo albums and frames reminiscing on old memories and those that have passed, who we miss dearly. This reminiscence therapy helps our residents remember the fun times and memories we all share together.
Putting on the residents' favourite music and having a boogie is the most simple activity and we always have the most fun! It provides some light exercise for our residents and we all have a good time, listening to their favourite music and reminiscing on old songs.
