Employee Highlight: Let's Talk About Laura

Employee highlight

Laura is a member of the Compton View team and her confidence has significantly grown throughout her time with us. She joined us in 2021 when she was 18 as a Sleep-in night worker while she studied at College, her goal is to work within the Nursing industry and this job has helped her to gain knowledge and experience within a similar field. She had a gap in her employment with us when she started her A-Levels in 2022 and then came back to us in September 2022 and has been a star ever since.

Laura has picked up extra shifts, even the shifts she doesn’t usually work such as days and evenings, she was always available when we were struggling to cover shifts if a member of staff was off sick. Laura dedicated more of her time over the Christmas period which was so generous of her to help the team at such a personal time of year. Laura is studying Children & Mental Health Nursing at University as she would like to go into Mental Health Nursing, during this course she will be put on a Dementia Placement at the end of January 2023, these are the reasons she picked up extra shifts so she could gain more experience with our residents who have early on-set Dementia. Her confidence has grown so much since she came to us in 2021, going to College and University has really changed her as a person, for the better! She is much more comfortable in her role as a Carer now and we have loved watching her blossom.

We often take on college placements and work experience as we believe it's important to teach the younger generation about elderly care and encourage them to study and work in the health and social care industry. We think of it as helping all ages and all walks of life.
